The U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters appears to have led a backstage effort to block California’s request for its own, more stringent emission standard, which would have helped reduce pollution and environmental injuries in California.
The E-mail chain, released by the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, shows “the administration is trying to stack the deck against California’s efforts to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.”
Governor Schwarzenegger announced that California will sue by late October if the issue is not resolved by then.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will team up to perform the most comprehensive study ever conducted on prescription drugs used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The study will address the potential for increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular causes when using these drugs.
Vanderbilt University and Kaiser Permanente of California will help perform data analysis to determine whether or not these possibly dangerous medications may result in California drug injuries and deaths.

A San Francisco car wreck on Sunday night left two people injured, one severely, when a driver of a stolen car crashed into a tree near Richardson Gove and U.S. Highway 101. The driver then fled the scene, leaving the two California car accident victims alone. One of the injured men was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries; the other was treated and released.

Two different wildfires have already burned 16,000 acres and forced 2,000 residents to flee their homes, fearing severe California burn injuries and worse. More than 1,000 firefighters are fighting the fires in Southern California and are doing their best to contain the further spread and potential harm that can be caused by these kinds of wildfires.
The governor declared a state of emergency in San Bernardino on Saturday because of the potential danger to California residents.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has just signed legislation to help prevent California auto accidents and car-related deaths. California auto accidents are the leading cause of death among 16-20 year-olds, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The legislation prohibits California drivers under age 18 to use their cell phones, text messaging devices, and laptop computers while driving. The rules go into effect next July and will also require adult drivers in California to use hands-free devices to talk on their cell phones while driving.
